Custom POI Format Instructions for Magellan Maestro Units by RigData:
1. Install the Magellan POI File Editor software that comes with your unit on a CD.
2. Save your DRL file (LLGxx.xls) as a TXT file:
a. Open the file with Excel.
b. Go to File\Save As, and select TXT(MS-DOS) from the Save as Type drop down.
c. Click Save.
d. Close the file, and choose Save or Yes if prompted after that.
3. Format the file using the POI Editor:
a. On your computer or laptop, go to Start\All Programs\Magellan\Magellan POI File Editor.
b. Go to File\Open. Change the Files of Type to Ascii Files (*.ASC, *.CSV, *TXT).
c. Find and open the LLGxx.txt file.
d. Check the box Tab option under the Separator section and Next.
e. Using the drop-down boxes above the field names, select Name above the Rig_Drill field.
f. Next select Latitude above the Latitude field and Longitude above the Longitude field.
g. Select Finish.
4. Recieving errors:
a. It will give you an error report, if you wish to review what didn't import.
b. It will always give you an error for the first line, which contains the headers and is not an issue.
c. Any records with NULL values in the Latitude or Longitude fields will not import. This happens for some new locations. This is OK.
5. Rig locations should plot on the map. Save the file to the default directory.
6. Load your data into your GPS unit:
a. Turn on the unit.
b. Plug the USB cord into the Magellan unit and your computer.
c. The unit should recognize the correct directoy and file type for uploading.
d. On the Main Menu, go to Points of Interest, Enhanced, and then Change My POI File.
e. You should see your LLGxx file. Touch the file to select it.
f. Choose Display Categories, check the box next to the file, and Save.
7. Navigate using the arrow to go back to Enhanced.
a. Select Category and pick Default Category.
b. Choose Spell POI Name, and use the 123 button.
c. Type in a location, make a selection and route from there.
