Using Digital Rig Locator (DRL)  in Microsoft Streets & Trips

Importing DRL into MS Streets & Trips by RigData:

1. Save the attached DRL file (LLGxx.xls) from your email to a standard location on your computer.

2. Importing DRL data into Streets & Trips:

    a. Go to Data\Import Data Wizard.
    b. Locate the saved DRL file and select Open.
    c.
Under Sheets, select the name of the DRL file and then Next.
    d.
On the next screen, make all fields Other Data as their type.
        i.  Except leave Longitude and Latitude as is.
        ii. Also make the Rig_Drill field Name as the type, which will become the searchable field.
    e. Select Finish.

3. Formatting in Streets & Trips:

    a. In the legend on the left, right-click on the imported DRL file and select Properties.
    b. It will default to the General tab where you can change the name and symbols
    c. Go to the Balloon tab to customize the fields that will be displayed (or not) in the information box for each location.

4. Using DRL in Streets & Trips:

    a.
Right-click on a location on the map and select Information to get a pop-up information box or label.
    b. By right-clicking in the map, many functions are available such as creating routes with directions or generating drive-time zones.
    c. Trips costs for your routes can be estimated by user-defined inputs too by going to Route\More Options.
    d. To s
earch for a rig by rig number and drilling contractor name:
            i.  
In the box next to Find in the upper left, type in the # and rig number a space and then all or part of the driller name.
                 Example:
#322 Patterson
            ii.  Select Enter on your keyboard or Find.
            iii. It will start searching, but it will default to searching for an address.
You don't want to use these results!
            iv. When it stops searching for an address, select the Place/Data tab, and then Find
            v.  It should find your location and any that have a similar name or number. 
            vi. Select it and OK to take you to that location on the map.

5. Saving your work and importing new files:

    
a. Go to File\Save As in Streets & Trips to save your work. 
    b. An .EST file is created that keeps your imported data, symbols, and information box settings the way you set them up for the next time.
    c. The next time, just open your saved .EST file to resume work.
    d. If you are importing a new DRL file, you will need to start from step 1 and repeat all steps in order to refresh the data. 
    e. You can import multiple files into one .EST, but for each imported file, you have to go through the wizard, customization, and so on.
